Choir awarded 3rd prize at

Cornwall International Male Choral Festival
April 2017

The Rossendale Male Voice Choir thought they were doing pretty well at the recent Cornwall International Choir Festival, when they landed a podium 3rd place against some outstanding opposition. That turned to complete delight, when their musical director, Matthew Thomas,(inset), was awarded the prize for best conductor in the whole competition, beating more than 30 others in the process.

Directing the choir, not only in the competition, but also at 4 concerts across Cornwall, Matthew said “The whole weekend has been such a marvellous experience, particularly for those newer members, who have never been to such a top-level festival. I was over the moon when told I had won the conductors’ prize, but was also impressed with the dedication and work that the choir put in over recent months. I really hope we can return in 2019 to see if we can do even better”.

More than 50 singers and wives made the long trip to Newquay, and everyone is now looking forward to the next episode in this choir’s journey, with a number of concerts already planned for the rest of this year.

New members are always welcome, and they can now be assured of some top-notch leadership !!
